Welcome back everybody!

This term we are exploring Our Precious World.  We will look particularly at the changing seasons, we have already begun to find out about freezing and ice.  This week we are planning to make bird feeders for our garden as the children were concerned that the birds might be getting hungry.

We are currently reading 'One Snowy Night' by Nick Butterworth and 'The Gruffalo's Child' by Julia Donaldson.  Read them at home with your child.

We will be celebrating Chinese New Year which is on the 31st January this year.  We are decorating our home corner in preparation and the children are busy making Chinese hats, dragons and cards.  We are also planning to cook and eat some chinese food.

Ask your child to sing our special St David's Day song to you. We are busy learning this for our special performance at the school Eisteddfod on March 7th.  We have some talented singers in the Nursery this year so we are sure to have a lovely event.

Mrs Richards is visiting Uganda over half term and as a follow up we will be learning all about Africa when she returns.

Thank you for your continued support.

Hello to everyone at Maesybryn Nursery!

What an exciting half term we have had!  Our children have settled into school life and are taking all the new experiences in their stride.

We have learnt all about colour this half term.  We enjoyed our Elmer story books and all helped to make our fabulous Elmer which takes pride of place in our cloakroom.  I'm sure you have all seen him!

We have been visiting the forest for Forest school activities and have loved making woodland crowns and autumn perfume!

Reading the Owl Babies story led to us producing story leaves and mark making our own owls.  We have been practising our scissor skills cutting out our owl babies and experiencing lots of different textures when collaging their feathers.

We have designed and made lots of interesting models in our construction zone and used lots of the junk you have brought to school.  Thomas made a super rocket which is now flying from our ceiling!

Make sure everyone has a good rest over the holiday because next term will be very busy indeed.  Mrs Burton-Little is already writing our Christmas Nativity play!

Don't forget to wear joggers on a Friday as we are now up and running with PE sessions.  Today we played with the parachute!

After half term we will be encouraging our children to be independent when entering nursery in the morning.  Try to say goodbye at the door and let your child hang up their coats and bags themselves.  You will be surprised at how grown up they are!

Enjoy the holiday!

The nursery children did a fabulous job last week participating in our charity bike riding. All tried their very best to cycle around the junior playground and managed over 170 laps. Well done Class 14 and 15!
Our topic this term, 'Inside out/Outside In' is now in full swing and we will be spending the next couple of weeks exploring the world of minibeasts! We will be going on minibeast hunts in the garden and using information books to find out lots of creepy crawly facts!
We also now have tadpoles in the classroom and the children are thoroughly enjoying visiting the investigation table to check on their progress!

April Showers!

Hello to everyone in Maesybryn Nursery!

It is lovely to have everyone back with us after the Easter holidays.

We are looking forward to a busy and successful summer term making good use of the outdoors (despite the weather!).  Sadly our wonderful igloo was destroyed by the terrible weather over the weekend but we are sure everyone will help Mrs Moore to rebuild it.

Don't forget we are celebrating World Book Day on Wednesday May 2nd.  Dress up as your favourite story book or nursery rhyme character and please donate your used books for Mbale.  You will have a big surprise when you discover who's teaching you on Wednesday that's for sure!

We are planning to make seed and bean musical shakers next week so if you have any empty containers such as pringle tubes, bottles or boxes or any seeds, beans or lentils which you could donate to us we would be very grateful.

Welcome to Owen who has joined our Nursery class this week.  He has already made some good friends and everyone has been very kind and thoughtful in helping him settle in.

More news and photos to come soon!

See you all tomorrow

A much needed update!

Hi everyone
Sorry our blog hasn't been updated for such a long time! - as you know we've been very busy in the nursery, with lots of new changes and ideas!
We're all looking forward to taking part in our school Eisteddfod tomorrow, we have been practising our St David's Day songs- maybe you can ask your child to sing them to you at home?

A big thank you to everyone who has sent in their home and family photos for our display, still plenty of time to send them in if you haven't.

We're still looking for more resources:
  •  our outdoor music making area - I wonder if anyone has an old clothes airer we could have? or any metal utensils etc for a variety of sounds.
  • natural resources e.g. shells, pebbles, fir cones etc
Our mini theme next week will be 'The 3 Little Pigs', if you have anything that would tie in or a copy of the story please label and send in so we can share them.

Hopefully next update will have some photos of our fun activities to share with you!

The Nursery team

PS, Mrs Moore is very grateful for all the milk bottles shes received (she is making an igloo for the children!) but still needs lots more - 4 pt bottles only, washed with no label please.

Sunday, 16 October 2011

Hello,

The children are settled well into Nursery now and Mrs Mertens and I are really pleased with how grown up they are coming into school by themselves. We've had another busy couple of weeks with lots of activites going on in the classroom and outside. The children have been drawing pictures of themselves to put on our 'Birthday Train' so we don't miss any of those important birthdays. We have also been learning a new song '5 Little Leaves' to sing for our harvest celebration next week. Maybe ask your child to sing it to you.

The children enjoy telling the class about the objects they have brought in for our colour table. Thank you for supporting your child by helping them find things at home. Next week will be green.
We love to explore our outside area in Nursery, especially last week with all this rain! If your child hasn't yet brought in any wellies yet please could they do so. Please make sure these are named.

A big thank you for all the 'junk' that has been sent in for our junk modelling. We have enough to keep us going for the time being but we will let you know when we are running low again.

I look forward to seeing the parents from my class on Tuesday for the open afternoon between 1:30 and 3:30. Mrs Mertens is currently taking appointments for parents evenings after half term. Please see Mrs Mertens if you have not yet made an appointment. In the meantime if you have any questions please feel free to come and see us any time.

Welcome!

Hello to all the children and parents in nursery!

We've had a busy few days settling into our new nursery classroom and getting to know one another. Mrs Mertens and I are very proud of all the children and how well they have settled in. We have all been spending a bit of time getting used to our new classroom and have had lots of fun exploring and playing in the different areas.

This term our topic is 'The Colours of the Rainbow'. At the moment we are focusing on the colour red so if your child has anything they would like to bring in to display on the 'red table' that would be great! Also, as Autumn is now with us, we will be looking at the changes around us. If you are out and about have a look for any signs of Autumn. It would be lovely if your child could bring something in for the 'Autumn table'.

Can I just remind everyone to make sure the children's clothes, coats, wellies and lunchboxes are named. Theres are lots of children in the nursery and we would like to try and avoid any mix ups.

PE is on a Thursday for my class and Friday for Mrs Mertens class so children will need to come dressed for PE that day. This is just jogging bottoms instead of school trousers or skirt. Please don't forget to send in wellies too so the children can explore the outside in this rainy weather.

Sorry for all the information! If anyone has any problems or queries please don't hesitate to come and see Mrs Mertens or myself.

Many thanks,
Mrs Morris and Mrs Mertens
